KEC relies on industry and government sources along with publicly available reporting for information on threats and vulnerabilities pertaining to physical and cyber assets of the electric utility industry. Using a broad understanding of member requirements and applicable security principles the department evaluates that reporting to determine which topics are useful to member electric cooperatives in their defensive efforts. Pertinent information is then passed to security personnel at all 29 member locations minimizing time delays in getting beneficial and actionable information to those asset managers.
The department focuses on the co-ops’ internal cybersecurity issues and fortification as well as physical security of substations and other critical utility assets.
